Ruben (12th Grade), Edison H.S. – Motivation Academy, Philadelphia

“The boys’ bathroom is always dirty, we never have hand soap or toilet paper, the hand dryer doesn’t work, there are missing doors on the stalls, the toilets are always clogged, and there’s graffiti all over the place.”

CriticalExposure > “OUT OF ORDER”
Ken (11th Grade), Sto-Rox School District

“I took this photo to depict the state of despair that parts of our school are in. I hope that when others view “Out of Order”, it makes them think about how we feel when surrounded by visuals like the broken urinal. Although we are used to visuals such as this in our school, they affect our thoughts daily. We, the students of Sto-Rox High School, feel as though we do not deserve better. Therefore, we are less inclined to strive for better.”
CriticalExposure > CLOSED BATHROOM
Fatimah, IDRA/Albuquerque Public School District

“This bathroom has been closed, since the beginning of the year. This photograph depicts how quality of facilities is still unfulfilled since the Brown/Mendez cases.”
